We
condemn the actions of imperialist power which makes war as a motor
of its existence, converting politics into war and its economy into
a war economy.
The
imposition of the friend/enemy duality as a way to lead the world
is a brutal and criminal way to simplify reality. We live in multicultural
societies, and we reject having enemies and being party to any massacre.
We
know that the word 'war' is not written in singular: Iraq, Afghanistan,
Palestine
.We know for a fact that we are facing a 'war' in
our daily lives: we clothe ourselves thanks to child labour; immigration
laws are imposed
We are victims of the market forces and we
are been denied the chance to decide how we want to live.
From Seattle to Geneva and now against the war in Iraq, a resistance
and protest movement is emerging, a movement that does not belong
to anyone but belongs to all of us. It's a movement that everyday
questions the unrepresentative behaviour of politicians.
As
a University we would like to be in that movement and try to keep
it alive as much as we can.
It
seems as if a University is condemned to become an ivory tower or
just an instrument to reproduce capitalism. We do not want that.
We have to be able to produce ideas and behaviour which create cooperation
against war. Indeed, we have to be able live in cooperation and
do it free from fear.
