CARACTERISTICAS:
Este pequeño pajaro exotico Australiano mide 10 cm midiendolo desde la punta del pico hasta el final de la cola. El macho tiene el pico totalmente rojo y con las mejillas anaranjadas, la hembra esta improvista del color anaranjado en las mejillas y ademas el pico lo tiene mas tirando a naranja.

ALIMENTACION:
Se alimenta de unas semillas que venden en las tiendas para pajaros exoticos que contiene entre otras semillas: mijo, panizo,negrillo...............Tambien le encanta la lechuga, pero esta no hay que darsela todos los dias, ya que luego tienen diarrea (hay que darsela unas 2 o 3 veces por semana), y el huevo cocido machacado en pequeños trozos con cascara y todo. Es recomendable tenerle puesto un hueso de sepia ya que tiene calcio y es bueno para la cria.

CRIA:
Cria todo el año aunque mejor en primavera. Se le tiene que poner un nido, ya sea tipo caja como el de los periquitos (es el que mejor me a ido) o de estos de mimbre redondos. Hay que proporcionarles hierbas, pelo de cabra....para que ellos rellenen el nido, el macho es el que acarrea con los materiales y construye un nido muy bien elaborado.
Por mi esperiencia es mejor tener a la pareja en una jaula o jaulon ellos solos, ya que suele haber peleas entre los pajaros (destruyen los nidos, tiran los huevos, los rompen.......). Hechan entre 4-6 huevos de color blanco de unos 15mm, la incubacion en la que intervienen los dos individuos dura alrededor de unos 12 o 14 dias. Los polluelos nacen ciegos, a la de una semana habren los ojos, y son alimentados por los padres. Salen del nido a los 22 dias de su nacimiento mas o menos, y es recomendable separar las crias a los 40 dias de su nacimientos ya que los padres los podian atacar picoteandolos, y habria constantes peleas. Durante la cria es bueno ponerle pasta de cria que venden en las tiendas, huevo cocido machacado con cascara y lechuga.
Una vez esten los pequeños pajaros fuera del nido hay que retirarlo rapidamente y limpiarlo ya que durante la incubacion y la estancia de los pequeños se acumula mucha mierda y por la humedad se puede pudrir. Por ultimo los pequeños nacen con el pico negro y no se le cambia el color hasta los 2 meses de edad .
