The June 21, 2001 will take place the first total solar eclipse of the third millennium.

The lunar umbra will touch our planet moving from the South Atlantic, in front of the Uruguayan coasts, and it will cross the African continent: Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and later, Madagascar. The point of maximum duration of totality will be given in high sea, to about 1,200 Kms. of the Angolan coast with 4 minutes and 56 seconds.

Due to the lack of personal security in Angola, the expeditions and observers will go mainly to Zambia and Zimbabwe, where the totality will be around 3 and a half minutes of duration with high probabilities of clear skies.
