- STARSHIP TROOPERS, PEACEMAKER, and BREAKDOWN are the latest major releases scored on Euphonix consoles; film composers continue to choose Euphonix consoles for flexibility and sonic quality -
Noted composer Basil Poledouris recently installed a Euphonix CS3000 console in his new post-production film scoring facility, Blowtorch Flats in Venice, CA. Poledouris has worked on numerous films, including box office successes such as BREAKDOWN, ROBOCOP, and THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. He has just completed the soundtrack for Sony Pictures' current release, STARSHIP TROOPERS.
The futuristic sci-fi film's exciting music score was recorded with a full 96-piece
orchestra at Sony Picture's main scoring stage in Los Angeles, with all subsequent
mixing and conforming taking place at Poledouris' Blowtorch Flats Studio. Recording
commenced in June and wasn't finished until October - with only 30 days to assemble
an extremely complex music, dialogue and effects track.
"The Euphonix was a lifesaver on this show," enthused Poledouris, "the console's ability to quickly grab audio snapshots, slip frames, and review our mock-ups virtually anywhere in the reels - at any time - is brilliant. At the touch of a button, the film's director, Paul Verhoeven, and I were able to easily review every note of every frame. The unique ability to instantly reset the console was crucial to this project."
Engineer Tim Boyle commented, "We really pushed the envelope for the extremely complex 7.1 tracks; we utilized 18 separate mix outputs. The versatility and speed of the Euphonix CS3000 Hyper-Surround(tm) made this project do-able."
Poledouris added the last word: "I've worked on other big-name consoles around the world, and the bottom line is still sound quality for me. The Euphonix is unbeatable; it's the closest thing to being out on the podium during a live take."
