STEPS TO GET MAILED COVERS FROM ANTARCTICA
Any collectors can get mailed covers from antarctic expeditions,stations and ships to its own address. Thus some steps must be followed, and of course good luck.
1. You should send some
covers (please not abuse) , franked and addressed to your home. Covers
should be franked with correct rate and own stamps from the country of
the station or ship. It can be noted that some countries issue their own
stamps from its antarctic territories (see ahead).
If we haven`t got stamps from some countries, they can be sunstitued
by IRC (International Reply Coupons).
It is also important to highlight that the vessel mail must be franked
with stamps from the same country as the flag is. This mail will go from
the same flag ports or other ports (in this last case, the PAQUEBOT postage
system will be used). Sometimes stamps are from seaports countries, mailed
through its own postal service.
2. The covers should be
sent in a collector cover with a kind letter asking to be cancelled.
Should be notice, most of times people in charge aren`t profesional,
most times scientific or support personnel, spending their free-time.
3. Wait and see. With a
little of luck, in some months we`ll have some covers really mailed from
antarctic, however we haven`t got some luck we`ll wait for more than one
year or we`ll never receive them (sometimes it happens).
*IRC, issued by the UPU, can be purchased at post offices, and them
are changeables all over the world by enough stamps to send one ordinary
letter abroad via air mail. Its quite similar to international money, because
they are also valuables all over the world.
